Pub Review - Leeds Arms
Tuesday, 29 May 2007
Some places have to work hard to feel like the real thing; the Leeds Arms just is. In the heart of the Old Town, just a step from the harbour, the Leeds has been woven into the lives and culture of Scarborough's sea-going community for as long as anyone can remember. The walls are covered in photos of ships and fishermen and the pub is stuffed with nautical gear of all kinds. In some places that might seem like trying too hard, but here it sits well, and is a nice reminder that the town has its own identity, and never was just for visitors.

The Leeds dates back to a time when the sea was the highway of the east coast as well as its larder. But it has adapted well, and gives a warm welcome to the roving drinker. The beer is good - Black Sheep, Landlord and Bass are excellent - and once you get settled into one of those window seats, you find it hard to think of a reason to leave.
