Arts and culture mapped
Thursday, 06 August 2009

The project to create an arts map for Scarborough is to be named CHART Scarborough. The initials stand for Culture, Heritage and Art in Scarborough, which is what the map will celebrate.

CHART Scarborough aims to provide a physical and website-based map of the town's current creative and cultural activities and cultural landmarks. The map will also provide a trail people can follow to take them around Scarborough's cultural highlights and offer information about the places identified on the map.

CHART Scarborough's other main feature will be the website version of the map. It will be able to create many different trails around Scarborough, so users can create or download their own trail.

There will also be community-based projects to engage local people in CHART Scarborough, including a digital project with a group of young people (18-25) and older people (65+). There are  plans for a live arts trail, including the commissioning of performance pieces linked to the trails created from the map.
