Last trains to, er, Nunthorpe

There's still a chance to catch the Esk Valley Railway Music and Ale trains running on Friday evenings until 11 September, and once again on 30 October.

The trains, featuring different musicians, leave Whitby at 7.15pm and return from Middlesbrough at 8.44pm, stopping at the various village stations on the way and arriving back in Whitby at 10.11pm. An ordinary service returns to Middlesbrough at 10.25pm. There's a barrel of real ale on board and you can get off at any station, have a sit in a country pub or even a meal, then catch the train coming back.

The 93 bus back to Scarborough connects with the late train, leaving Whitby at 10.15pm and arriving in Scarborough at 11.14pm.
