Pub Review - Barracuda
Monday, 25 June 2007
First thought on entering Barracuda: "I've heard of vertical drinking but this is ridiculous." The Lord Rosebery gave us a taste of the high-ceilinged spaces sweeping the country, and now there's more double-storey bars in Scarborough than herring boats. Personally, I like them for that quick thirst quencher at the end of a hard day, but after a while the cool minimalism gets, well, boring.

Just as well really; on my first visit we were left stranded at a table while all the other furniture was removed from the bar - getting ready for the Friday night heave. I'm told there's a South African theme but I'm afraid I never noticed. The beer is minimalist too; lots of bottles but not much character.

So, there you are, a get-in-and-get-out kind of bar; fine, but only if you're on your way to somewhere else. Roger Osborne
